With audiophile grade digital-to-analog converters, the audio from CD media comes through precise, pure, and clear of distortion for extremely pleasing sound. Denon DCM-290 uses an easy to load and highly dependable CD mechanism that lets you load up to 5 CDs at a time. The DCM-290 lets you program up to 32 tracks from the five or fewer CDs loaded in the player. In addition, you have selectable random and repeat play modes. The DCM-290 will play all commercially available CD recordings plus CDR and CDRW recordings made on a component CD recorder or computer drive. As such, it will also play MP3 and WMA files that were downloaded from websites. Overall, the DCM-290 offers the sound performance you’ve come to enjoy from Denon along with the comforting convenience of being able to sit back and enjoy up to 5 CDs continuously. 3 Mode random playback Coaxial Digital Output Intelligent Disc Scan 20 Track Music Calendar Display 32 Track program memory Front panel headphone jack Remote controlled volume up/down Unit Dimensions WHD – 17.1 x 4.5 x 15.4 / Weight – 12.6 pounds Denon USA 1-Year Limited Warranty Includes Remote Control

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent CD/MP3 player
I am very impressed with the quality of the system. I have tried playing CDs and MP3 disks and it works very well. The first player amazon.com shipped had a mechanical fault, but amazon.com promptly replaced it.

2 Stars Shoddy operation makes this an unattractive choice
I haven’t been happy with this changer. It’s not consistent with Denon’s past history as a maker of quality components. The ability to play MP3 CDRW discs is nice. It’s also nice to be able to change the other 4 discs while 1 disc continues to play.

However, a few points make this an annoying choice. Firstly, the unit is slow to operate. The disc changing motor is slow. And you cannot cue up multiple “next disc” commands to cycle through the discs, which again makes cycling through your discs slow as you wait for each individual disc.

But even more annoying is that the “Disc Sequential Random Play” operation (listed on page 10 of the manual) doesn’t even work! I’ve spent hours trying to convince Denon’s technical support that there’s a problem with their firmware, but to no avail. They only insist that it’s a problem with my particular unit. This being after they admit that they don’t even have a DCM-290 unit at their site to test! Last time I was at Best Buy, I tested the DCM-290 they had on display — guess what? — same problem. Basically, this unit has bug in its software, and Denon refuses to fix it. But of course, Denon cheerfully continues to sell it!

So, if you don’t mind a slow changer that won’t cue commands, and a player that only performs some of the functions listed in its manual… Well, maybe this is the product for you. But if you’re truly looking for a quality CD changer, you’re better off looking elsewhere.

5 Stars Denon DCM-290
The DCM-290 is a solid 5-disk CD changer for a home entertainment center. I have yet to run into problems and I have owned the product for seven months. The rotator tray seems a little flimsy but CDs fits snuggly and has never got caught off track. Remote programming quickly corresponds with the unit control panel for easy and dependable use.

4 Stars Denon 290 CD Player
This player makes my old Sony look like a clumsy tank. I enjoy it except for one problem. Scratched cds won’t play. But they play fine on the boom box in the kitchen! I thought that a garage sale boom box wouldn’t be able to read cds better than the Denon, but I was wrong.

1 Star denon dcm – 290
As a long time purchaser of Denon products I would not buy another Denon product. I purchased a Denon DCM – 290 Cd changer. It stopped working after 13 months. I contacted Denon, they said I could send it to one of their authorized repair places, but it would not be repaired free of charge since it was over the one year warranty period. I just received a call from the repair shop. They told me that the disk table and much of the inside had to be replaced and would cost $258 which is more than the $249 I paid for it new. Unfortunately Denon no longer makes reliable products.

Featuring 5.1-channel surround sound combined with progressive scan DVD technology, the Audiovox DV1201 home theater system integrates elite-level sound and video to successfully emulate (and even surpass) the movie theater experience. The progressive scan feature generates a picture with twice the scan lines of conventional DVD images, improving your resolution and sharpening the objects onscreen while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DV1201 also features a built-in Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II decoder, letting you complement your favorite DVD movies with full, rich sound. In addition, the system offers other sound adjustments–including movie, music, and matrix modes–that actively replicate the aural attributes of a theater, stadium, concert hall, or intimate club. Whether you’re watching movies, rooting for your favorite team, or listening to music, the DV1201 generates exciting sound that livens up your home.

The system comes with four magnetically shielded satellite speakers, a center channel speaker, and a powered subwoofer. The 200-watt unit also offers such DVD functions as multi-angle playback, zoom, slow motion forward and reverse, secondary audio (when available), programmable memory, and repeat playback. Viewers can switch between 4:3 pan scan, 4:3 letterbox, and 16:9 widescreen modes to increase their video options. The receiver is also equipped with an integrated AM/FM tuner with 20 presets, and to further enrich your audio options, the DVD player is compatible with DVD Video, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and JPEG picture disc formats.

The DV1201 invites users to add additional components using its host of video and audio connections, including a digital audio output, a component video output (ideal for connecting to a high-definition TV), one composite input and one output, and an S-video output. The system comes with a remote control and carries a 90-day warranty against defects.

What’s in the Box
DVD player/receiver, four satellite speakers, center channel speaker, subwoofer, remote control, speaker cables, power cord, user’s manual.

4 Stars decent system for the money
I have not had a problem but only had it a short time thus far. Guess we’re old because I don’t need a cd player loud enough to beat the neighbors. lol No humming etc… others are talking about yet. Sounds great with “in stereo” movies. Little low volume on ones that aren’t. So far it’s a decent system for watching movies and playing cd’s on – esp. for the money. If your a kid who wants a system that will blow your drums out then buy something else. If you want a decent and inexpensive system that plays movies and cd’s well then it’s a good deal. We may try 2 different speakers later for the front.

Experience enhanced sound from Bose’s most affordable, next-generation Acoustimass stereo speakers. The Acoustimass 3 system delivers bass that’s the deepest and fullest yet. Two single-cube speakers–smaller than ever before–are elegantly designed to fit virtually any decor. And the module easily hides away behind furniture or off in a corner, so all the lifelike sound seems to flow from the tiny cubes.

You will expect to find much larger speakers when you hear the Acoustimass 5 Series III speakers. Yet the spacious sound actually comes from two tiny cube speaker arrays and a hideaway Acoustimass bass module. The improved cube speakers offer enhanced performance, contemporary styling, and a smaller size than the Series II. And the improved module fills a room with even deeper, fuller bass. These Virtually Invisible speakers are the definitive answer to the question of how to combine spacious sound with space-saving design.

Though the Virtually Invisible speaker design may seem like a disappearing act, the performance is quite noticeable. Full, resonating bass and crystal-clear highs envelop a room in beautiful stereo sound. It’s all the result of years of intense research and testing. The Acoustimass 5 speakers accomplish what no conventional speakers can claim: big, lifelike sound without big, bulky speakers. Now or in the future, Acoustimass stereo speakers can be turned into a home theater set by simply adding the compatible Bose VCS-10 center-channel speaker. For full five-speaker surround sound, add the VCS-30 center-surround speaker package.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Pretty good, in context. The little engine that can.
I tried the Acoustimass 5 on the optional stands, mistakenly I had a pair of Klipsch Heresy III’s in the room, as expected, the Heresy III’s toasted them, but the Heresy III’s are $1600 a pair, so was this a real comparison. No, it was a pair of professional sound reinforcement speakers v. home stereo speakers. I wouldn’t dream of comparing them to the Forte II’s or any of the large Klipsch systems. The premise that a person can slap together a horn and a bass driver in a ported box and compare them to the Acoustimass 5’s is a joke. I love good horn loaded speakers, and I have heard bad horn loaded speakers that drive holes in my ears. Efficiency is not the only criteria in an era where power output is cheap.

So I went to the bose outlet and heard the Acoustimass 5’s along with the VCS-30 center and surround speakers, a total of $650, not bad for real 5.1. As a less than emphatic person for Bose, I had to admit, these little guys really did the job, I could close my eyes and hear some pleasant sound, which is what most people want. Specifications don’t take into account speaker personality, which all speakers have. The Bose system was nice, easy to listen to and all in all, darn good. Directionality and cacophony were minimal.

The little $650 speaker system is truly spectacular, in both movies and music they are really good. The Bose store was nice enough to set this up for me. There are things that well, are not Klipsch, all of my Klipsch is made in the USA, but only because they are all Heritage series stuff. These little guys (Bose A 5’s and VCS 30) filled the room with good sound. The surround package added on really made them quite spectacular for $650. They have an exceptional spatial quality and are easy on the ears.

Look it bothers me that Bose doesn’t publish technical specs for anything but professional products. The thing is when you are listening, with your eyes closed, just enjoy as I did. People complain about the price, well from where I sit, the combination of the VCS 30 and A 5’s are a bargain.

5 Stars Great quality…
i got these for $4 (not a type-o, $4) at my church treasure sale. Didn’t really know what to expect, but HOLY COW, I put them through tests with my iPod, whatching tv, and even playing video games, and each time, it was like you were right there, in the action or at the concert. So weather you get them for $4 or $400, you should still buy them.

4 Stars Make good surround Speakers
I have these in the back and Polks up front with a sub and they sound good. I did a test hooking up the Bose on “A” side and Polk on “B” side of the reciever and tested each set, granted the Polk do sound better but they are larger and more expensive. For the size the Bose are amazing. Very happy with the Bose in the back mounted on the ceiling, they look good too.

5 Stars Awesome sound!
I was very pleased to see the price for this sound system affordable. I really enjoy the sound when watching movies!

5 Stars Ideal for Sailboats too
Vesta and I lived for ten years on a sixty-foot sailboat in the Caribbean. For the first couple we had a Sony ghetto blaster for a sound system, but with over three hundred CDs aboard we decided we needed something better, so we bought an Acoustimass 5 Speaker System, which we ran from a twelve-volt Alpine car stereo with a 12 volt Alpine amp. We put the subwoofer behind a curtain in the back of the main salon in front of the extra sails and the two speakers on the left and right bulkheads and for eight years we had the best sound system in the Caribbean from St. Martin all the way down to the Spanish Main.

You can’t go wrong with Bose, you really can’t.

With X-SPACE SURROUND, letting you sit anywhere you like. With the Denon DHT-FS3 home theater system, everyone can enjoy surround ambiance wherever they are sitting in the room. With just a slim front speaker unit and a supplied subwoofer unit, the DHT-FS3 home theater system reproduces highly ambient surround sound. No confusing sound space settings required! Since the DHT-FS3 comes preset with the dimensions and acoustic characteristics of your room, all you need to do to enjoy your new home theater is to connect your DVD player and TV monitor.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Excellent Solution for Home Theater Sound Bar
The DHT-FS3 is a great product for “5.1 home theater sound” in those applications where traditional components may not be practical or suitable (or you just don’t want to mess around with a lot of components and wiring).

I needed my LCD TV, BD/DVD player, sound bar and subwoofer to fit into a single cabinet and could not install speakers or run wiring outside the cabinet. (See my shared customer image.) The cost is equivalent to a discrete component solution consisting of an AV receiver, passive sound bar (like the Polk SurroundBar), and an active sub; however, it has significantly less wiring and greater ease of setup/use. It arrived in 3 days using free Amazon Prime shipping. The Denon packaging is very high quality as is the product fit/finish. Both the main and sub units have a high-gloss piano black finish and matched the gloss-black finish of my Samsung LCD TV. I personally don’t fancy gloss black finishes; but, I didn’t have a choice and it seems gloss-black is current market trend.

The sound is very good – though you won’t get the full surround sound effects of a typical discrete component system with speakers in front and behind you. However for a single sound bar it has extremely good surround and low frequency effects when used with Dolby Digital/DTS sources (like DVD and BD discs). The volume can be turned up very loud. You can adjust a number of parameters to customize the surround sound to the size of the room and distance from the sound bar; however, I just ended up using one of the three pre-defined quick setup surround options.

The biggest drawback is that it lacks video (HDMI) switching. (This has been noted by other reviewers…Google CNET DHT-FS3.) You need to directly connect your source devices (like a DVD/BD player, set-top box) to the FS3 using S/P DIF (digital) audio cables, and the same source devices to your TV using HDMI (or component video). This is a little bit of a nuisance because you have to go to the TV to select the source (for video) and then to the FS3 to select the source (for audio). Of course you can simplify using the system with a programmable remote like the Logitech Harmony One (which I plan to do).

Denon needs to upgrade the FS3 to have HDMI. I would have given it 5 stars if it had HDMI input/switching.

5 Stars excellent product
Denon fs3 soundbar exceeded my expectations. Great bass, and the sounds come out truly natural. This is money well-spent, and is recommended as a must-have for home theatre set-ups especially for anyone with a limited room area. A 5 to 1 audio experience in a compact-sized surround sound.

Thanks Amazon. Delivery was fast and secure. Received the item in excellent condition, and came with the accessories as advertised. I will continue doing more business with this outfit.

A limitation to this product is the non-HDMI cable connectivity. But nonetheless, it’s just a minor inadequacy. (for me!) Also, ipod dock (asd 1r) has to be purchased separately.

4 Stars Good value, but little surround
The short: at $799 I’m not so sure. No brainer if you can get it for half that.

The long:

Surround: 2

Well, more than none, but a lot less than any 5.1 system. It’s pretty evident that the sound is coming from the bar under your TV, with the occasional shadow of surround/spread sound. Then again, I’m using it in a large 20′x20′ room. I’m sure you’d get fuller sound and better bounce/fill in a smaller space.

Sound quality: 4.5

Keeping in mind the configuration of the system (1.1) it sounds pretty dang good. I needed to set the bass to max for the sub to fill out my rather large space, but typical of Denon there’s good crispness. Of course, you’re missing that lower-mid oomph, but again, keep in mind the low profile and there’s your tradeoff.

Form factor: 4

Slick cabinet, nice size for flat panel. Easily mountable to wall or even connected to the bottom of the TV if the TV’s wall mounted (like mine is, on a swivel mount). Sub is fairly compact and would easily slide behind a sofa or chair.

Overall: 4

If I had paid $1200 for this I would have been disappointed (you can get a heck of a component system for $1200 these days). But at $428 with no tax and free shipping I’m pretty pleased. I would definitely recommend for someone with a smaller space who doesn’t want to install 5.1 (or 6.1 or 7.1) and who can live with minimal surround.

5 Stars Great Product
I needed a replacement sound system but did not want the hassle of 5 speakers and cords running in my living room or worse yet drilling holes and monuting speakers. This is the ideal product for that. It was very easy to set-up and adjust–two wires. It is not the same as having full surround sound, but as close as you can get with a single speaker. I checked out the Bose and Harmon Cardin and settled on this. I feel I got the best product for my needs.

4 Stars good simple htib system
The Good: looks great with black piano finish

easy setup with few wires

simple operation

excellent sound

can be mounted or just place on enclosed cradle in front of tv

The Bad: not much surround sound, you will hear some sounds coming at you

from the sides, but no rear sound detection.

on some tvs the remote sensor could be covered by the bar, be

sure and measure the height of your sensor.

expensive

Overall: very good sound, easy setup and operation, would be hard to

beat the quality of this if you want to avoid wires and other

complications of a true 5.1 system.

A perfectly matched and flawlessly sounding five speaker system that has the best of both worlds. It has high reproduction qualities in music as well as surround sound home theater. When this system is used in Dolby surround and DTS systems you really get to see, hear, and feel what home cinema is supposed to be. It is possible to use the AV-HTB in combination with active subwoofers for true low frequency effect.

5 Stars Very Pleased
Received the speakers as scheduled. I am very happy with the quality of the speakers. You won’t find a better speaker value anywhere. I would recommend buying speaker wire with your purchase. I didn’t and couldn’t listen to these great speakers until I ran out to the local store. While banana plugs make sense for my particular receiver, I don’t really feel they are necessary for the speakers. I am not an audiophile by any stretch. I was just looking for the last set of speakers I would need and I believe I found them.

5 Stars This is a great deal!
For the price, these speakers can’t be beat. All my friend are jealous and I have all ready recommended them to a few freinds looking to buy. I cant wait till the sub woofers are off of back order.

5 Stars great price, great sound
My setup: Fluance AV-HTB, Pioneer VSX-819H-K 5-Channel A/V Receiver (Black), and Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Monitor Series Powered Sub-woofer (Single, Black)

Over all I’m very pleased with these speakers. I’m a bit of a audio novice, but to my ears these speakers sound great; crisp and clear even at high volume. Just to echo some of the other reviews opinions, solid construction and well packed for shipping. I’ve had these speakers for about 3 months and everything I’ve heard on them has just sounded amazing, perhaps the most striking I’ve noticed over my old HTiB is clarity. I’ve played blu-rays on this system and they’ve sounded great, and I’m especially impressed with how music sounds on these speakers.

4 Stars great !!!
so far i love these speakers they sound awsome for the price and they look good to . one of the towers came in with speaker a little loose from shipping i blame ups because they where packed as good as possible .

i will buy again .

4 Stars Great speakers!
This is the first time I have ever purchased speakers online, so I was very sceptical and hesitant. How could I order speakers without HEARING them first. After reading a lot of different reviews, I decided to take the plunge…and I couldn’t be more happy. Sound is great, boxes are nice and heavy, the bass is great, the range it superb. Very good speakers for the money…heck, very good speakers just in general. My only problem is the center speaker seems to be a little weak in comparison. Otherwise, very happy. Shipped very, very quickly too.
