5 Stars Great 5.1 DVD system for ~200 bucks
After researching for months, I (31 yr old guy who likes technology) bought this system ($210.79 out the door) using site to store. It arrived early and in perfect condition. This is my first real (5.1) home theatre system and I have to say I am very pleased after only a few days.

The system is hooked up to a 40″ Samsung LCD TV. Set up (which is conveniently run through the TV) was a cinch including running surround cables under the baseboard around the room. The two surround wires are about 33′ long and easily made it around my average-sized living room. My previous upconverting DVD player (Phillips) doesn’t even touch the quality of this one, although the PS3 is still the way to go if you want the best picture quality. If you told me I was watching a Blue Ray, I probably wouldn’t argue unless of course they were side by side. It has really nice darks and lights and very sharp lines (especially after the comparison to the old DVD player). The DVD player itself is a little deeper than anticipated (17″W x 14.5″D x 2.5″H). Don’t forget to allow extra room for wires in back. I actually had to carve out the particle board backing to the bottom of the TV stand. Luckily my wife and I are purchasing a real TV stand very soon.

As far as sound goes, I have nothing to really compare to coming from an old two-speaker system. The auto calibration seemed to do the trick for now. I tested (and cranked up) a scene at the end of “The Rock” that has a mix of voice, deep lows, and crisp highs and the system performed flawlessly. It was cool to hear bullets bounce of the walls to my left and right. The bass is not overpowering, but certainly possesses some kick and settings can be changed to suit. The two front and two rear speakers are all identical. The subwoofer measures 8W” x 12.5D” x 12.75H”.

Unfortunately, I think some companies adjust their prices according to review ratings, but I couldn’t resist giving it 5 stars. I highly recommended this system for the price and quality unless you are a home theatre guru or something and need a million dollar system.

5 Stars LOVE IT!!
I’m a graduate student on a limited budget. After spending a week researching home theater systems, I decided to purchase this Sony HTS, because of Sony’s stellar reputation and the simplicity of not having to buy separate components. I’ve had the system for several days now, and I just LOVE it.

If you follow the owner’s manual step by step, the system is easy to set up. The speaker wires are color coded which makes that part of the set up very simple. I have the DVD/Receiver connected to my cable box/DVR; so, I had to buy an RCA cable & an HDMI cable. These cables cost less than $10 each if you buy them online.

I’m not an audiophile; however, I enjoy watching movies and listening to music channels on my TV. I think the system’s sound quality and bass are excellent. I’m very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this HTS.

5 Stars Polk Satellite Speakers – Big sound Small price
I was recently in the market for satellite speakers to upgrade my ONKYO Surround sound system, all i wanted were the satellite speakers. I searched at all the usual retail stores. I had done my research and was set on buying POLK speakers. The retailers also highly recommended them but i was only able to find them in sets which included a center speaker, plus the ones in the set were half the size for about $600. I then turned to AMAZON and was able to get a much better speaker at a great price $286 for all four including shipping and taxes! The clarity and sound quality is incredible, i will definitely be hearing from my neighbors soon as I tend to turn up the volume. So far i have experienced zero distortion, these combined with my PS3 and movies on Blu ray – just blow you away – Highly recommend these speakers

I ordered this one as a “cheaper” speaker and also a more expensive Boston Acoustic speaker. BA speaker was about 1.5x bigger and I expected it to blow this Polk one out of the air. Surprisingly, the smaller less expensive Polk had much clearer high notes and bass was punchier. Both had about the same loud level. Great speaker for small price!

4 Stars Great speakers, but what bracket?
Review update – I moved the two new Polk speakers to be my front speakers and after hearing how they sound there I have since bought another pair to replace my older Sony side surround speakers. These sound great and I am real happy with them. Great sound at a reasonable price.

I added these as rear surround speakers for my 7.1 system and they sound great. My only quibble is with the “Integrated keyhole slot wall mounting brackets”. These are simply an extension to the speaker back that has a hole in it for hanging from a nail or screw (like a cheap wall clock). They do have the standard threaded hole for use with regular satellite speaker wall brackets (which I purchased separately). They’re still a great deal but I really wouldn’t plan on mounting these with the “integrated bracket”.

These are a nice satellite speaker mounts for the money. I did quite a bit of research for getting nice stands for my Onkyo HTS. And came to a conclusion that the speaker stands are way too expensive than what they should be. So I decide to go with wall mounts, which are relatively cheaper and are even less visible than the stands, if you run your wires properly. Now the goods and bads:

–Does the job–you can rotate your speakers in any direction you want because of the omni direction design

–small enough to hide behind your speakers

–Best for satellite speakers (about 4-5 lbs). Yes, even though the specs say, it can handle 8 lbs,personally, i would not put anything more than 6 lbs on these mounts. They are not as robust as they look like and tend to droop a little. But for the application for 1-6lbs, I would definitely recommend these instead of bulky and expensive speaker stands. Any thing bigger and heavier I would recommend go for bulkier design or speaker stands.

5 Stars Nice looking, work well
These mounts are nice looking and they work well for holding up small surround speakers. The package includes a very complete selection of mounting screws and hardware. The special nuts included for keyhole speakers worked surprisingly well at securing the mount so that I could angle the speakers as desired.

About the only point of caution is that these molded plastic mounts are definitely for small speakers only. I have an Onkyo 7.1 home theater in a box. The surround speakers I have mounted are about 7″x10″x3″. The mounts hold them securely enough, but are probably at the upper limit as far as weight. If your speakers are more than the recommended weight, you will need a stronger mount.

Overall I recommend this package. The price is decent and the product effective.

I mounted small Sony cube speakers (~1 pound) on these and they look great. They were easy to mount and the speakers can be pointed in any direction. The color matches the speakers. My only warning would be that since they are plastic mounts, I wouldn’t try to hang a larger, heavier speaker with them.

5 Stars Perfect replacement if all you need is satellites!
I slowly over loaded the speakers from my last surround sound set and decided that i needed a quick cheap replacement, I still use my other center speaker and my sub from other set and run all of them together through a teac 8900, the sound is great and plenty loud enough to make my neighbors bang on the wall, so for any one who needs a good set of speakers for a very decent price these are highly recommended. I use these with my ps3 and blast away at rockband all the time, they definitely are worth the money.

1 Star 3ohms is NOT a good thing!
I haven’t bought these but I have a Sony HTIB that uses the speakers and I think it should be noted you can ONLY use these with a HTIB receiver. 3ohms is a goofy standard, you want to get 8ohm speakers for any good AVR. Beware.

These speakers are great quality and sound. Definately a bargain for the money you pay. You do need your own receiver to hook them into and they do not come with a Bass but if you have all that or if you dont care about the bass then I would definately try these speakers!

Also, a big issue for me when buying things online, is not always knowing who you are doing business with and if they are honest people. I can easily say that this vendor is. I had an issue with my first order from them, and although it was a little difficult getting a hold of them; when i did they did everything they could to make it right. This is not always something you can depend on when ordering online and so I would take advantage of ordering from someone who is honest and can be someone you know you can feel confident in buying from!

I bought these speakers to go with my dvd player that needed new speakers. When I opened the box they were brand new in a carton, They are authentic Sony speakers just like on the Sony website!! 4 Stars great sound but compatibility issue with samsung lcd tv
i bought this soundbar based on reading several product reviews on the net and here on amazon. the seller i purchased from was a merchant here, electronic express. great price but did not like that item was shipped in original manufacturer box (they just put a fedex sticker on the box) which may tempt people to steal the thing once left on the front porch.

i have owned the soundbar for less than a week and am very happy with the sound quality. definitely not surround sound quality but an elevated experience from regular tv speakers nonetheless. close to what a bose cinemate would offer… maybe a little bit better.

can’t really go wrong with polk audio. they’ve been in the business for awhile and know how to produce quality sound products. the wireless sub is a definite plus but lacks oomph compared to standalone subs that are available out there. but since it came with the soundbar and was convenient to set up (plug and play – just have to be set to same channel as the soundbar), can’t expect too much… does contribute to a better sound experience overall.

the only issue i have with this soundbar is it does not come with its own remote. it has the capability of being programmed with any remote you already have. i was able to initially ‘program’ it to respond to my samsung lcd tv remote BUT had to cancel that program to respond to a different remote because the tv kept flashing the message ‘not available’ when i pressed plus or minus on my remote since the tv is telling me the volume feature(which you turn off on the tv speakers and set to external speakers) is not avaialble. pretty annoying to have to hit EXIT on samsung remote each time volume is increased or decreased. so i reprogrammed soundbar to respond to a universal remote spare that i had in the house. works fine now.

hate the fact that i use 2 separate remotes to control tv now but i’ll live with it for the better sound quality and upgrade to my movie viewing pleasure.

I purchased one of these because my husband is an old rocker and his hearing isn’t as good as it used to be. He’d given up watching TV on our 46″ Samsung LCD because of muddy sound. I don’t know whether we blew a speaker (which we’ve done on every other stereo and car we’ve owned) or whether it was just the tiny, tinny speakers in the TV. (Time out for pet peeve: We paid a LOT of money for this TV 2 years ago; you’d think they could put decent speakers in it. OK, back in) He was always asking me what people had said. I wasn’t sure one of these would ‘fix’ it, but it did. We pulled it out of the box and plugged one cable into the wall for power and one into the TV for audio (actually 2 together, you know how they do left and right, red and yellow). We turned the TV speakers off and started enjoying TV immediately. Then my son insisted that we had to use the subwoofer. I thought extra noise was part of our problem and didn’t want to add anything more. We plugged it into power and placed it behind my husband’s chair. Wonderful. You don’t actually hear stuff from this, more like you feel the sound. And this woofer is wireless, so other than needing power, you can put it ANYWHERE in the room. Apparently it’s not like the 3.1/5.1/7.1 speakers where placement is so critical (at least according to those audiophiles). And it only took a few seconds to train our remote to drive it. You hold down a button and count the blinks. When it reaches 3 or something it’s programmed.

So, easy setup of soundbar, able to use existing remote, and decent looking design. What’s not to love.

5 Stars Best Soundbar on the Market
I bought a 40 inch Samsung LED TV. Purchased a Samsung soundbar first, but returned it because it had poor sound reproduction. Tried a Sony soundbar but returned it because it had low volume. Next tried a Boston Acoustic soundbar, but found out that it only was a TV enhancer.

Finally came across the Polk HIC soundbar at Best Buy. A little pricey, but the sound quality is GREAT! Had everything that I wanted, a wireless subwoofer, learns your current remote and has great surround sound, and simple to install. You cannot do better than a Polk (top of the line)sound equipment.

5 Stars Klipsch Synergy Home Theater Speaker
I want to start off by saying if you are looking for small speakers with big sound then look no more! These speakers are so clear and crisp it is amazing!!! I did alot of research on these and I don’t think there is a better speaker for the price.(The Amazon Price) Bestbuy has the same speakers on sale for $599

I think it is really cool that the grill of the speakers come off and the speakers come with wall mounts. I matched these bad boys with a Polk 12inch sub and the sound is speechless. You can’t go wrong with these!

I’ve only had these speakers for a few days, but, they sound great. I have a pair of Klipsh tower speakers in my bedroom and was thinking of getting some bookshelf type speakers to get some room back. So, on a business trip to Chandler Arizona, I went into a Best Buy store there and came accross these speakers. After listening to them I decided they would fit the bill for my bedroom. I also double checked with a sales person on the price because I found it hard to believe they were on sale for $224.99…which also helped in the decision to buy them.

As I said, they sound good, but, I do plan on adding a sub-woofer in the future.

I heard the Bose Life 35 and 48 Systems in a Bose store. Both systems sounded good. I was interested in buying a Bose Life Systems.

I have had a pair of Klipsch Forte Speakers for 23 years, so I decided to checkout the Klisch Quintet III with a sub-woofer. I heard the Klipsch Quintet III with a 10 and 12 inch woofer. The Klipsch system with the right 5.1 or 7.1 reciever out doses the Bose for a lot less money. I bought the Quintet III with a 12 inch woofer. The sound is great with movies and music.

I recently spent the day at bestbuy, where i tested their sound sound systems until they kicked me out of the store and turned off the power to their sound room. I was looking for a new center and found these Klipsch speakers, and they completely outperformed all of the other speakers including a $2000 Bose setup. These sounds great at high and low volume, and are probably the best speakers on the market.

5 Stars Best $200 piece of audio equipment I’ve seen
Was just looking for a basic receiver to replace an old one that died. It was just for some speakers I have outside & in a formal dining area. I’ve already got 2 pretty nice Denon’s for the 2 home theater areas in my house, and love them. Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this one on sale for just over $200 with free delivery.

Delivery was quicker than promised and it came in perfect condition. Crutchfield was excellent. They even provided their own guides on hookup & tips.

Haven’t really cranked it yet – it really just runs ‘background music’ – but I think it would be OK. Has a ton of options / inputs / outputs on it, including the Denon Multi zone, an ipod connection (controller sold separately), and satellite radio connection, so I would think it would have enough variety & capabilities for the average user.

And again, for the price, I don’t think you can beat it.

Would definitely order from Crutchfield again, too.

5 Stars Unbeatible Value!
I would like to challenge anyone in finding a better AVR in this price category. I purchased the Denon AVR-1609 two days ago for under two hundred and am absolutely amazed that they can sell such a nice product for so little and make a profit. I hooked this up with a 6.1 speaker setup… small speakers, nothing special, and the sound is fantastic. It took me a bit of time to setup because it defaults to 5.1 and 7.1 speaker arrangement and I had to scour the manual to figure out how to add one speaker in the back and nobody likes to read manuals… The manual is actually very well written despite what other reviewers have said and has everthing you would ever need to know about using the auto setup feature as well as fine tuning and making adjustments afterward to suit your listening style and other interesting programming features in a very simple and easy to understand layout. Regarding other reviewers comments… If you call yourself an audiophile then Denon makes plenty other AVRs to suit your needs at 10x the price… This reciever is for people who enjoy fine sound WITHOUT breaking the bank and the resutltant screaming wife. The comments about the HDMI inputs/outputs not passing audio is plain silly and nothing more than a convienience issue, there four are digital audio inputs for your components to be routed separately… I would rather Denon cuts out bonus features and convieniences such as these rather than sacrifice sound quality and choose cheaper amplifiers, etc… If you want features of a high end AVR then spend a few hundred extra and get it. Also, I actually like the doube sided remote… they hide some infrequenty used type buttons in a closable compartment on the back of the remote. Its nice for setup and configuration adjustments. The remote alone is worth a couple hundred bucks… Go ahead and buy this thing, you’ll be getting a lot more for your money than you ever expected and wonderful sound from a respected manufacturer!

1 Star Sending it Back
I purchased the 1609 after reading the reviews on Amazon. Nearly all the reviews were favorable and I had heard good things about Denon so when my old Kenwood bit the dust I purchased this receiver.

It doesn’t work.

I am somewhat of an audiophile so setting it up wasn’t too difficult. I thought the manual was pretty much junk. It skips around: Turn to page 27 and then turn to page 15, etc.

I called Denon yesterday and the guy said, “Just send it back”. I thought that was unusual so I called again this morning and the guy I spoke with walked me thru a few checks but the outcome was the same… send it back to the retailer.

Although I purchased the product off of the Amazon website, it actually came from another vendor. The return instructions specify that you have to have a pre-approval before you return a product. I called the number and got the run around. The guy wanted to convince me that I was doing something wrong and it wasn’t the product but I finally wore him down and told him that I needed to return the unit. He said they would e-mail me a return postage label and they would pay for shipping but I haven’t gotten the label yet and it’s been almost 24 hours.

I like the looks of the machine and all the features. I think I’m going to swap it out and try another one but if the next one doesn’t work I’m going to ask for my money back.

Good sound, a little complicated to set up for the a/v challenged. Lots of optiions if you are in to that (Maybe some day I’ll sit down and try to figure it all out, or find a techie geek to help). The remote also has alot of things I haven’t figured out yet. I’m sure it will be great once I spend more time to figure it all out.

4 Stars Great Piece of Equipment
This system is great. What I was most concerned with in buying this system was the convergence of the Web, television and music in our family room. This system seemed to meet all my requirements on paper and I was satisfied when I received the box.

Setup was simple and everything you need is in the box except for one thing: it needs to be near your router so that you can network it. My router is upstairs so I got around that through powerline networking which allows you to send your network through your power outlets. Works like a charm.

The bottom line is that I get my Netflix movies directly through the BluRay player…no waiting for the mailman for most movies. I also get FM radio and Pandora as well as my cable TV.

Great product. I recommend it.

I’ve had this beauty for 5 mon now and it is beyond my expectations. Sound is crispy clear and detail oriented. base is more than enough (max is 6 dB but I’m good with 2 dB) I listen to Pandora almost everyday and not to mention blurays. The only flaw I noticed is that it doesn’t support wi-fi but it’s not a big deal. Finally I mounted speakers on the wall yesterday after a long wait(it took me and my friend 3 hours to install all the plates and to connect all the wires behind the wall. They are so beautiful and it sounds even better). Speaker stands are not removable from the bottom. It’s built in so when you mount speakers on the wall they look a little weird first time but they don’t catch my eyes anymore. If you’re looking for a decent HTIB with blu ray player and wouldn’t want to spend over $1000 for HIGH HIGH end home theater systems, get this or at least give it a try!!!

Being able to stream Pandora and Netflix is very cool! Sound is great and I love the non-tower speakers. I had a little trouble getting my wireless network to connect at first but LG customer support was extremely helpful and now the system works smoothly.

While shopping for a home theater system, I came across this beauty. It does everything and does it well. We have had it for a few weeks and have watched 50 or so Netflix online vids. The Pandora radio keeps us rocking whenever we are not watching movies. This system is the perfect companion to the limited basic cable. I would like to see an enter button for tv area on the remote. Changing aspect on the tv still requires separate remote. It has good sound and features that integrate several technologies. Go try one for yourself.
